 WHAT IS PERSEVERANCE/RESILIENCE?

 

Perseverance or resilience means to hang in there even if:  

  • the journey or task is difficult to complete

  • you feel like a failure

  • there is so much opposition from others 

  • you are surrounded by chaos and confusion 

  • there appears no way out

  • you feel totally discouraged and alone

  • you feel afraid

 

 

You see, perseverance or resilience is the ability to get back up stronger when knocked down. Feeling pain, acknowledging pain whether self-induced or from others, but with the determination to do something positive about it. Many times, in life the unthinkable happens. Bad things happen to good people. Choosing to have the right attitude about challenges is what helps keep you resilient. This DOES NOT mean you dismiss the pain, anger, or do not want justice. It means choosing not to beat up on yourself or think negatively about yourself. You are human, cry when you need to, but then get up. Learn lessons from your pain and experiences, then get back in the arena of life with a stronger outlook and a with a better game plan.

 

 

SOME BASIC TOOLS FOR LEARNING PERSEVERANCE/RESILIENCE:

 

  • Ask yourself, “what will I like my life to be like?”

  • Is there a realistic plan for getting where I need to be?

  • Who is in control of making changes in my life?

  • Will I always be in this crisis?

  • How are others positively getting through their crisis?

  • Who is in my corner cheering me on?

  • Change negative thinking and behaviors.

  • Learn to live with the past, and NOT in the past.

  • Learning to forgive others and self without holding a grudge.

  • Allow time for healing. Your pain may be very deep.

  • When you get stronger, help someone else.

  • It is especially important to have Faith/Spirituality in a Higher Power. Faith allows you to have hope and belief that circumstances can and will get better.

  • Stop TALKING and start DOING.
